The Penderwicks In Spring

The Penderwicks book 4
Random House Kids

As spring arrives on Gardam Street, there are surprises in store for each Penderwick, from neighbor Nick Geiger’s expected return from the war to Batty’s new dog-walking business, but her plans to use her profits to surprise her family on her eleventh birthday go astray.

Oh my I can not say enough about The Penderwicks! The Penderwicks In Spring is the first book I’ve read from this simply adorable series! After reading this book all that changed. My youngest and I grabbed books 1-3 at our local library and plan to read them. How on earth did I not know about this book series. Jeanne Birdsall has created a wonderful set of characters in the Penderwicks. Her books are so great, they are even better when read aloud.  Kids as well as you will laugh so hard at times, making this a treasured book that will be read again and again.

Each character is so well developed and a delight to read about. Lydia is a typical 2 year old, she is in love with all things princess and big brother Ben. She loves to be his little shadow and follow him around, guess he is her prince. Ben is a nature loving boy who isn’t thrilled with Lydia being his shadow but loves her just as much. Sometimes he doesn’t want a “baby” following his every step. Batty is our favorite she is just so sweet, funny and a sweetheart. Jane is wonderful and loves to indulge Lydia’s princess obsession and really dotes on her. I really enjoyed Jane’s character also, OK I really like all the character and the Penderwick family. Skye is another one of the teenagers that has typical teen drama (along with Jane). Skye is a bit of a fiesty girl and knows what she wants and thinks.  Rosalind is the oldest and away at college, she is heading home and just in time. Plus there is the honorary Penderwick Jeffery. He is the friend that is around all the time so it’s like he is family! The Penderwick kids need some money and they just what to do. However this is the Penderwicks so things don’t go as planned.

If you are looking for a great fun series to read aloud this summer, bedtime or any time than go grab The Penderwicks In Spring. While your at it grab:

I Survived The Sinking of the Titanic 1912

5 out of 5 stars
Elementary Readers

The I survived series is very popular with the elementary readers. They are fiction stories but they learn a little about history at the same time.My youngest really enjoyed the whole series and says this one is by far her favorite

I enjoyed the story of George and Phoebes story. I liked that even though they could afford and were staying in a expensive suite, they became friends with immigrant passengers. George is just your regular everyday mischievous boy.  Aunt Daisy is on a journey to heal and honoring her late husband who wanted to travel on the Titanic. She ask her niece and nephew if they would like to join her journey. George likes to explore and gets in trouble but is likeable sweet kid. Phoebe is his little sister that loves him so much and fears his trouble making ways will get him sent to military school. That is the least of their worries while aboard the Titanic. However thanks to Georges exploring the ship and memory of what Mr Burrow’s said about secret passage the workers used to get to the different levels, he just might save the day

Does Aunt Daisy, Phoebe, George, Enzo and Marco escape the Titanic together? Do they get separated? Does being on the Titanic bond these 5 people beyond the Titanic?
